Outcomes
We use standard questionnaires to help us evaluate our outcomes of surgical treatments. This helps us better understand how patients are going after surgery and advise future patients on expected outcomes. We are always trying to improve in our techniques and care, and assessing outcomes is important when striving for quality. Other surgeons and medical providers may benefit from this information as a teaching or research resource, but patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Some conditions and patients are more amenable to improvement with surgery than others. Not everyone replies to the follow-up questionnaires and we respect that.
Outcomes of More Common Shoulder Procedures
The ASES is the American Shoulder and Elbow Score. The maximum score (a ‘perfect’ shoulder) is 100.
The Oxford Scores are British scores. The maximum score (a ‘perfect’ shoulder) is 48.
The WOSI score is a Canadian score for the unstable shoulder. It is a very strict score, with a maximum of 100.
